| Jupiter
is the fifth planet in order from the Sun with fourteen
Moons and it is the largest in the solar system. In Greek
mythology, Zeus is the Jupiter God. He is believed to be the
master of heaven and earth. Supreme in the Olympian
pantheon, he is the god of justice and controls the lives of
mortals; he is depicted with a n aegis wielding the
thunderbolts and is showing astride an eagle.
In
Rome civilization he was worshipped as Jove (Hence, the
expression that has traveled for centuries into modern
language as “By Jove!”). He was the God of Sky, Rain,
and Lightning. The Indian almanac attributes prime
importance to this planet known as ‘Brihaspati’. His
other name is Guru, or more precisely Devguru. It is
benefice planet, generally regarded as most auspicious
amongst all the planets.
According
to the Vedic tradition, while the Sun is considered to be
the Atman or soul, Jupiter is assumed to be the Jiva i.e.,
life. Jupiter is an indicator of good fortune, wealth, fame
faith, devotion, spirituality and religion. He represents
sacred scriptures, which, are thought to be taught by him to
the gods, hence his name – the Guru.
He
is bestowed with wisdom, justice and benevolence.
His gemstone is pushprag, commonly known as Pukhraj or
Yellow Sapphire
